Environmental Impact
The entire range of Cavalier Bremworth wool carpets proudly
carry the Environmental Choice New
Zealand mark. Gaining this accreditation means our
carpet production meets environmental best practice standards in
terms of materials used, energy consumed, water conserved, waste
produced and discharged, and emissions.

The accreditation covers both Cavalier Bremworth and Bremworth
Collection carpets - all proudly designed and made in New
Zealand. The relevant environmental certificates and VOC
certificates can be downloaded from individual product pages.
Made from a sustainable, natural resource
- Wool is a natural and sustainable fibre
- Wool readily biodegrades, providing critical soil
nutrients
Reducing energy consumption
- Wherever possible, the company uses energy-efficient
lighting and replaces artificial lighting with natural
lighting.
- Because our products are biodegradable, we don't burden the
environment with energy-intensive recycling processes.
- Our carpets are all made in New Zealand from 100% New Zealand
wool - meaning minimum transport costs within New Zealand to our
manufacturing plants and on to you.
Ingredients that are kinder to the
environment
- We use readily biodegradable detergent to wash our
wool
- The latex used in our carpet has low volatile organic compounds
(VOCs), assisting indoor air quality by reducing irritation and
odour.
Longer lasting products to reduce
waste
- Cavalier Bremworth carpets are made to last - they are
high quality carpets using only the best raw materials.
- The company is actively working on projects to divert used
carpet away from landfills when it reaches the end of its useful
life on the floor. More than 4000 sq metre were gifted in 2008 to
schools and council projects in the Auckland area.
- A number of trials are underway where wool carpet is being used
to help with revegetation, soil fertility, soil stability and
moisture retention. Anecdotal results from school trials
indicate it is extremely effective in suppressing weeds, retaining
moisture and boosting plant growth, much more so than simple mulch
or other commercial weedmatting. Initial results from
an AgResearch triall, which tested fro 134 compounds, showed that
there were no VOCs in the soil at any of their four test
sites.
- We actively encourage the use of recycling centres and waste exchange
programmes.
