Carpet goes to Rural Housing Programme
Cavalier Bremworth has made a commitment to the Rural Housing
Programme, managed by Housing NZ, to donate new carpet for use in
houses that are owned by the most economically deprived people in
New Zealand - in particular in Northland and East Cape.
Mike Gould, Contract Manager for the Whangarei Neighbourhood
Unit of Housing NZ says the houses are in dire condition with no
insulation, often with no running water or electricity and help is
given to ensure only basic 'health and safety' so the often elderly
residents (many caring for young children) don't end up even worse
off.
Flooring Brands (Carpet Court and The Floor Store flooring
retailers) have also come on board with the project and kindly
agreed to store the carpet for the local Rural Housing Project
managers and to provide installation services at no cost on a
case-by-case basis. The local stores are also encouraging
their suppliers to supply underlay and vinyl at no cost where
required.
Tranztolllink are providing freight at no cost to the
destinations.
The first consignments of carpet were sent to the three
destinations in August 2009, and further deliveries of carpet are
occuring as required.
